PROPOSED WATER AND ELECTRICITY SUPPLIES AT RH GIMA

Referring to the article appearing in the United Daily on 11 April 2020 regarding the issue of no water and electricity supplies at Rh. Gima, the Ministry of Utilities Sarawak would like to inform that about 200 households from Tatau in Bintulu will be connected to the State Grid as part of Phase 2 of the Rural Electrification Scheme (Last Miles), thereby giving the residents in the area access to reliable, renewable and affordable electricity.

This phase will see Rumah Gima and also other households of Rumah Bail, Rumah Rundi, Rumah Gundi, Rumah Baong, Rumah Asing, Rumah Jalong, Rumah Emi and Rumah Adam connected to the grid by 2021. However, consumer surveys and dialogue sessions with the residents, prior to physical work, are currently put on hold following the enforcement of Movement Control Order (MCO).

The Water supply project for Rh. Gima is currently 95% completed. It involves the laying of a pipeline from the existing  water main along Jalan Kuala Tatau to Rh. Gima. The work also has to be put on hold following the enforcement of MCO.

Both the electricity and water projects will resume after the MCO period ends and it is deemed safe for the works to commence.

These two projects are under the Projek Rakyat initiatives  by the Sarawak Government and are included under the water and electricity supply master plans, which aim to provide full coverage for Sarawak in respect of 24-hour electricity and clean water supply by the year 2025.- END
